Infinity: Empire
The year is 2260
It's two hundred years after the end of the devastating Cen War. Earth has not only rebuilt itself, it has expanded into the galaxy, colonizing other habitable worlds on the galactic rim and founded the Confederation of Human Worlds.
On Earth itself, ordinary humans, called "Normals" are a minority. They are vastly outnumbered by the new races--the vampires, 'thropes, paras, metas, goblins, and trolls.
But this is not the case throughout the Confed. Many of the colonies were established by religious sects that espouse human purity, and look upon the new humans with disdain and distrust. But as long as these worlds accept the clauses of the Confederation Charter, they are protected by the massive, magic-wielding mage-ships that patrol the borders of human space.
The "freaks" as they were once known, form the backbone of the Confed's military services. Metas and Paras make up most of the Fleet, and vampires and 'thropes serve with great distinction in the Confed Survey Service.
Above all of these, however, is the AO, or Adjuster's Office. Only the most elite are allowed a position in the highest Law Enforcement agency in the Confederation. Under the authority of the immortal Deryk Shea, the Adjuster himself, AO agents are granted almost unlimited authority but must justify everything they do to someone with a reputation for reading people that borders on the mystical.
The first book in the Infinity: Empire series, Tales from the Magitech Lounge is due out from Samhain Publishing early next year. It tells the story of a group of "freaks" that hang out in a nightclub just off Haight Street in San Francisco.
Jack, the bar owner, is a Normal, but he's surrounds himself with people who aren't. After dark, it becomes more of a family gathering of a sort than a drinking establishment. And, like most places of its kind, it attracts even weirder events as if it's a magnet for the strange and unusual.
Like the young girl who starts appearing in the mirror behind the bar, looking out at the patrons with great sadness in her eyes. Or the legendary villain who drops in one night looking for redemption.
This is the Magitech Lounge, a place of sanctuary, peace, and restoration.
I'm working on the second book now. It's tentatively titled The Sum of Humanity and goes in a totally different direction than Magitech Lounge.
In the aftermath of global warming, as the oceans rose, the lowlands of the Japanese islands slip below sea level and they set out to build the most advanced marvel of modern engineering ever attempted. The result is the island of Oban, a man-made mountain that becomes the Confederation's Justice Center.
An Advocate on the island to deal with the case of a vampire accused of turning another person against her will is caught up in an adventure beyond her wildest nightmares as the island is first attacked, then abducted, by a massive alien vessel.
Several thousand citizens, including a special Adjuster's Office contingent, are dragged along with the island into hyperspace and taken beyond the worlds of the Confed. A rescue fleet is hurriedly sent after it.
Faced with several alien races, both those abducted and those on the rescue fleet will come to grips with what it means to be human.
And here's a challenge for all you fans out there. If you think you're up to it.
The OFFICIAL Saje Williams Infinity: Empire PLANET BUILDING contest.
Here's how it goes. As I stated in the above text, the planets of the Confederation of Human Worlds were primarily settled by religious and ideological groups. Basically, people who wanted to create their own society. The Confederation Charter disallows gender or racial discrimination, but nearly anything else goes. The system of government can be anything from a Constitutional Monarchy to Socialist, but cannot be a dictatorship.
The more information you can give me on a world, the better. The very best submissions will be uploaded to the site and incorporated into the Infinity: Prime universe with credit given to the reader who came up with them.
How can you beat that?
I look forward to seeing your submissions.
