Some twenty-five thousand years ago, the advanced world of Alantea fell under the eye of the rapacious Cen, a race of beings so vicious that the destruction of whole races and cultures meant nothing to them.  Their wants, their needs, always took precedence over all other considerations.  And what they wanted was technology and food.  And their favorite food was the flesh of other intelligent creatures.

But the people of Alantea, alerted to the danger before the Cen were ready, began to fight back, and fight back with an unprecedented amount of success.  The Cen had been at this game for a long time, but the Alanteans nearly proved their match.

In a single bold stroke, the Cen dropped a massive viral bomb on their world and killed untold billions.  But in so doing, they inadvertently created their most implacable enemies.  For some few, the Thanatos virus had the opposite effect that the Cen had intended.  Rather than slaying them, it made them immortal.

Some two hundred survivors, led by a gate-ship Captain named Deryk Shea, fled through the metaverse to a primitive Earth that would remain safe from the Cen for eons to come.  There, they dispersed into the population and became Gods to the natives.

When the Cen finally came to Earth: Prime, their adopted home, some of these immortals led the fight against them.  When they were turned back, these same immortals decided that it was no longer enough to wait for them to return--they must take the fight to them.

Moving their operation to the sidereal universe of Starhaven, they began to construct a society dedicated to resisting the Cen.  The Immortal High Court and the interworld agencies are the result.

Some prominent Immortals

Athena

Once one of Earth's most prominent law enforcement officers, Athena created the first interworld agency by founding TAU.  She's a six foot tall, amazonian woman with dark hair usually cropped short, known for her quick temper and tyrannical demeanor.

Deryk Shea

The short, squat, homely man became the richest man on Earth before the Cen War, but has always dedicated himself to the service of humanity first.  He still resides on Earth Prime, from where he runs not only his financial empire, but also the most powerful law enforcement apparatus humanity has ever known.

Fenris Wolf

A human hero born of Loki's meddling in the distant past, Fenris is a massive shapeshifter and wizard who took the former vigilante organization of the Crimson Sash to Starhaven, and dedicated it to the fight against magical corruption throughout the universes.

Hades

Once known for having a heart as dark as his onyx skin, this immortal redeemed himself during the Cen War.  These days he's a fairly common sight on Starhaven, though no one knows exactly where he stands.

Isis

After spending centuries hidden on an island in the Pacific with a small tribe of magicians, Isis returned to the public eye during the Cen War as well.

Jasmine "Jaz" Tashae

Also known as "The Lady of Blades," Jaz is considered to be one of the most powerful and creative mages alive.  Even other immortals walk softly around her.

Kali

Mutated by a combination of magic and alien bio-technology, the "four-armed attack bitch" is the adopted mother of a horde of goblins created by Hades while he was working for the Cen in preparation for their invasion.

Loki

Probably the unacknowledged savior of Earth, Loki's as unpredictable as ever.

Morrigan

An immortal assassin who earned her place on Starhaven by helping to defeat a Cen plot on a backwater world that threatened not only Starhaven, but also Earth Prime.

Stormchild

With his flowing blond locks and athlete's build, this immortal, once known as Thor, is still as popular an entertainer as he was at the end of the 20th Century.

ArchAngel

An immortal soul in an android body, ArchAngel is acknowledged as one of the most powerful immortals to have ever existed.

The Immortal High Court of Realities

This council is made up of the (ostensibly) immortal Heads of Agency, and is considered the final word dealing with interactions and policies involving the civilization of those who travel between universes.  Its membership consists of Athena, Fenris Wolf, Kali, Morrigan, Artificer, Jasmine Tashae, Raven, and Valerie Winn.  They represent, in order, TAU, the Crimson Sash, the Triwar Guild, the Knights of Anarchy, Magitech, Mirage, Bane, and Helix.

The current Matriarch of the Stewards also attends meetings of the Court, though she is not a voting member.  For some unknown reason, though he is himself mortal, Artificer is considered by the Court as a full voting member.
